Japan has protested against Russian leaders's visit on the disputed "Kuril Islands"
Addressing to the huge rally on Monday Japanese Prime Minister pointed out to Russia to return their numerous islands which had been occupied by the Russian during the World War II and said that the current visit of Russian president to there islands an rage. The disputed southern Kuril Islands have been known as the Japan’s Northern regions have long been a crucial point between the two countries and both the countries tried to solve them after signing a peace treaty at the end of World War II warfare. Japan has celebrating Feb. 7 as “Northern Territories Day, Japanese Prime Minister said that the treaty of 1866 supports its claims over islands. In his speech to the almost 1500 protestors in Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister said Japan will never let down from its claim and the visits of Russian leaders are unjustifiable outrage. A lesser gathering and March were detained on the northern island of Hokkaido. Russia’s stand on its own claim shows to be received more forceful in the recent months. President Dmitry Medvedev became the first Russian leader to visit the islands when he visited them in November. Anatoly Serdyukov Russian Defense Minister looked over military battalions on the islands last week and said Russia is setting to improve the troops’ weapons there. Both visits created severe protests towards Tokyo which claims Russian army occupation of the Islands when Japan’s surrender in1945 was an act of illegal hostility. The islands are situated about 10 K.M. to Japan’s Hokkaido and are near to undeniable Russian territory and have huge reserves of gold and silver resources, natural gas, offshore oil and rich fishing grounds.
Japan’s foreign minister is planned to visit Moscow from Thursday and the islands dispute is probably to be at the top of his agenda. Progress was not expected. Russia has said that it is exhausted of discussing the matter. Medvedev said after his visit that he considered the islands part of Russia’s monarch territory and will go back there whenever he satisfy. However the protest over the defense minister’s tour, Russia’s foreign ministry alleged it was growing tired of the matter. Russia is looking for growing economic deals with Japan to assist extend its Far East, and has struggled to remain the regional matters apart from economic relations. But Japan has been sluggish to hold complete business and expansion without progress toward an agreement on the islands. Japan also has old disputes over islands with China and South Korea.
