In Germany a large numbers of people have recorded their protest against government strategy to upgrade its nuclear reactors.
In Stuttgart peoples made a human chain which was longer up to 45 Km (27 miles) for the demonstration worrying the recent nuclear crisis in Japan. At least 600,000 people have turned out for the protest and the police say the score was in huge numbers. The protestors were waving the flag with the slogan NUCLEAR POWER – NO THANKS.
The protest leaders say the incidents in Japan have appeared that automatic power could not be controlled and it is a dangerous technology.
Nuclear policy would the main issue in German regional election this year. The protestors belong to the south-western state of Baden-Wuerttemberg where Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives may have faced tough challenge in election two weeks from now because of increasing support for Greens, analysts say.
Chncellor Angela Markerl’s told to the reporters we think we don’t face such a serious earthquake or tidal wave threat. But we should learn from the incident taking place in Japan and we will have to follow the Guideline line, which were put up by the experts for nuclear power plants.
Mrs. Merkel’s government expanded the life time of nuclear power plants last year, considered to decrease protection threats about German plants.
The Japanese government has been trying to decrease the worries of a melt down at the Fukushima 1 plant which was badly affected by the massive earthquake and tsunami. A heavy blast hit the station on Saturday, damaging a building housing a reactor, but the authorities said the reactor was safe inside its steel container.
