Sandra Torres de Colom the first lady of Guatemala says she would be a contender to accomplish her husband Alvaro Colom in presidential elections which will be held in September.
Ms. Torres declared her name for the leading party in spite of this the country’s law does not allow to the close family members and relatives of the president standing for president.
She declared her candidacy in a bigger public meeting in Mixco, which is the poor town of Guatemala City . Her lawyers disagree that the ban violates the correct of all Guatemalans to put for election. Ms. Torres said she is reacting to "trendy shout" for her to stand.
As a first lady of Guatemala Ms. Torres has been looking after poverty alleviate programs, said her objective was to set up a Guatemala with "communal peace and trust"
Opposition parties say her candidacy is illegal as per Guatemala 's law, which does not allow to the close family members of a president from standing replacing him or her.
Gen Otto Perez Molina, candidate for the precise wing opposition Patriot Party said "It is an unlawful applicant, but we will have to analyze all the procedures that the law needs. The choice on whether Ms Torres can set for president in September will refer with Guatemala 's legitimate court. If she succeeded, she would be the first president lady in the history of Guatemala .
