Seve Ballesteros - five-time significant champion, who had brain surgery in 2008, has undergone "a brutal worsening" in his situation, his family told Friday.
The 54-year-old Ballesteros is being heeded for at home in the northern Spanish town of Pedrena, where he has been getting better from numerous operations made three years ago to get rid of a malignant brain tumor.
His family tells that Seve's neurological condition has undergone a severe decline," a testimony on the golfer's website said. "The family will enlighten as a result about any change in his health situation and takes this prospect of thanking everybody for the help that both Seve and his whole family have been getting during all this time."
Ballesteros, champion of three British Opens and two Masters, is one of Spain's and the golfing world's best-recognized sporting characters for his blustery playing style. He also recorded 50 successes on the European Tour and is broadly known as having distorted European golf.
Ballesteros weaker at Madrid's international airport before boarding a flight to Germany on Oct. 6, 2008 and was consequently diagnosed with the brain tumor.
