More Good News With NFL Labor Talks

There are reports saying that the negotiations for a new labor agreement for the NFL is 80%-85% done. We heard a couple weeks back that they were having secret negotiations. Right when I heard that I knew an agreement wouldn't be too far away. The NFL is making way too much money to start missing game. It is being said that major concessions have been made on both sides. I would think that there would have to be a rookie wage scale for there to be any deal, and that the owners would need to improve benefits for veterans. Other then that I really don't know what else would be moved around.

There were other reports that said that once the lawyers were let back in the room the negotiations almost fell apart. As bad as that sounds, the same source also says that NFL Players Association leader DeMaurice Smith instructed his lawyers to "stand down", and then continued with the talks. I actually take this as a good sign, because neither side broke off negotiations and the longer they keep the lawyers out the better it'll be for everyone.

What is really important is getting free agency going soon. After the Bruins tonight there is going to be a lack of stories other then the Red Sox. After a great NBA/NHL playoffs it would be a shame to have such a drop off. NFL player signings would certainly help fill that void.
