Killing of lesbian “Nogwaza” in South Africa ‘a disgust sin’


The cruel assassinating of a South African lesbian campaigner has been criticized as a disgust crime by Human Rights Watch.
The American supported group has advocated the police to do further to locate those guilty for the current murder and rape of Noxolo Nogwaza.
She was stoned and attempted on 24 April after a line in a bar in KwaThema township, east of Johannesburg. Supporters say gay South African women are besieged for what some call "counteractive rape".
Dissimilar in various African countries, homosexual performs are legal in South Africa and the constitution outlaws prejudice based on sexual direction. But supporters say gay and lesbian people are frequently targeted in townships.
Dipika Nath, Human Rights Watch researcher said, "Nogwaza's death is the newest in a long series of brutal crimes against lesbians, gay men, and transgender people in South Africa.
Zweli Mnisi, South African police ministry spokesman says that the police prioritize hostility against women and children but do not analyze at sexual directions when operating their trials.
He told to the BBC, to us, murder is murder, whether anybody is Zulu, English, male or female - we don't see color, we don't see fem femininity.
Good wishes were held for Ms Nogwaza outside her home on Saturday and some supporters report hearing bullying remarks from young men in the swarm. They alarm some of the murders may have combined with the mourners.
In 2008, female footballer and gay rights supporter Eudy Simelane was also executed in KwaThema, some 80km (50 miles) east of Johannesburg.
Two people were given long imprison terms for her killing and rape, though investigators refused that her sexuality had been a cause.
